A beach session in Columbus, Ohio?!

This family wanted to do something fun and suitable for the season for their maternity and family session, which took place on a hot July day in Columbus. After consulting with them we decided to plan their shoot at Alum Creek State Park, on a weekday evening to avoid crowds. We met close to sunset and spent some time wandering among the daisies, walking the beach, and finally getting in the water and splashing around. The kids had a blast and mom was happy to cool off at the end!

A session at Alum Creek beach can absolutely be successful, keeping in mind that it is a CROWDED park in summer. Your best bet is to plan for a weekday either at sunrise or sunset during the busy months, or plan a session during the off-season (April/Oct/Nov) if you need a weekend. It may not be warm enough to get all the way in but you’ll still be able to walk the beach and get your feet wet.
