Why paying a family photographer to photograph your favorite people is so worth it // Columbus, Ohio lifestyle photographers

From a recent client session at their neighborhood downtown

I’m writing this fresh off of our annual family portrait session, still buzzing with joy from an evening spent focused on my husband and kids, with no phones or screens present. Every year I think, “do I have the energy to plan this? work it into our busy schedules? figure out outfits? etc etc.” And every year I am SO. GLAD. I did.

If you take the time to find a photographer who gets your family, who genuinely wants to learn about you, who’s willing to meet you where you and your kids are most comfortable, who’s non-judgmental and willing to just be along for the ride, I promise you’ll have nothing but great memories from the experience.

After the session my husband said “that was fun.” My daughter said, “Mom, I just had too much fun, I can’t calm down for bed” (lol). I felt more connected to my family than I had in awhile. And do you know what we did? We wore our (clean and slightly nicer looking) regular clothes, roasted marshmallows over a fire in the backyard, and played with the kids on their newly built treehouse. Sounds simple right? That’s the best way to do it. Choose activities your family regularly does anyway. It doesn’t have to be at home (although that’s my favorite) but consider choosing a location your family already loves to visit for a more natural, comfortable experience.

I truly cannot wait to get my pictures back. I know I will love them, if for no other reason than that it’ll allow me to relive what felt like a special evening that resembled a slice out of our real lives. This morning (the morning after our session), the kids wanted to snuggle on the couch with me and look through all of our photo albums. I print one every January and keep them within arm’s reach. I can’t wait to add this session to our collection.

It’s hard to put into words what a photo is “worth.” To me these images will be priceless. I’m already in love with them. And even though I’m a photographer, I would have never been able to create this experience on my own (I also wouldn’t have been in any of the photos!). If you’ve been on the fence about scheduling a family photo session, I urge you to listen to your gut and reach out to your favorite photographer to start the process. If you find the right person, they’ll guide you each step of the way to make it as stress-free a process as possible.

A little rain’s not going to ruin their fun!

When you book a family photography session with me you receive: a detailed preparation and style guide, links to my seasonal wardrobe inspiration boards, an in-depth consultation to get to the heart of your session, flexible scheduling with rain date backups, a payment plan (if desired), and a creative, fun, relaxed session at a location of your choice. I also offer substantial print credit with each of my packages, and assistance with selecting the perfect print products for your budget and needs, allowing you to get tangible images into your family’s hands so you can relive your favorite memories together.
