Five fun and colorful spring photoshoot ideas in Columbus, Ohio
I feel like spring is often overlooked as a great time to schedule family photos, because fall gets so much attention. But the spring palette is so breathtaking - emerald green grass happy from lots of rain, tulips and daffodils and flowering trees offering vibrant pink and purple splashes of color everywhere you look - it’s the perfect backdrop for the types of colorful images I love to make.
As a long time Columbus resident and family photographer, I have TONS of ideas for how to best capture your family in the springtime.
Wander one of the many beautiful parks that showcase flowering trees around Columbus (I’m looking at you Schiller, Inniswood, Whetstone, Three Creeks and Franklin Park)
2. Visit one of Columbus’ endless options for ICE CREAM - the decor both inside and outside of most ice cream shops is typically fun and colorful, and your kids will be happy :)
3. Play in the garden Make authentic memories at home by having your kids help water the garden or plant seeds.
4. Blow bubbles in your backyard Bubbles are little balls of magic that add whimsy and color to your images, plus they’re always a hit with young kiddos.
5. Visit your neighborhood playground Choose a fun route to get there - riding bikes, roller skating, walking together as a family - and then play like you’re a kid again! Your own kids won’t be able to resist having fun for these photos.
Spring family sessions tend to be the most relaxed ones I photograph.
It could be the fresh air, the kids free to run feral again, everyone waking up from the coma of winter.
Ice cream shop dates, running barefoot in the backyard, planting seeds, exploring parks full of blooms - these kinds of activities capture the whimsy of childhood.
The best part? You don’t have to prep much. Show up as you are, and let the day unfold.
